Jackpot!
Huge props to Muriel, whom I encountered on Ancestry, and who pointed me in the direction of Closson Press, a tiny publishing house that prints collections of all kinds of fascinating and obscure records. Like, for example, the one I ordered that came in the mail yesterday: Collected Church Records of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and Jacob's or Howerter's Lutheran Church, now St. James Lutheran Church. Probably sounds like a snoozefest to 99% of you, but for me, whose ancestors came from Schuylkill County and worshipped at St. Paul's, this is gold! Gold, baby! I've already discovered extra children for several Maurer ancestors (who, sadly, probably did not live long enough to be counted on the census, which had been my only source of info before this) and some other interesting tidbits. I had no idea things like this ever got published anywhere. Oh, what an age we live in. ;)

Hello, Cousin. We have some Pennsylvania Maurer ancestors in common. Both my great grandmother Ida and my great grandfather Daniel were Maurers - 2 different lines. Ida was the daughter of Manassa and Elizabeth Kohlman Maurer. Daniel was the son of Johannes Klotz Maurer and Apolonia Herb. Daniel's great grandfather (also Daniel) and great grandmother Regina Wagner. Did you know he fought in the Revolutionary War? If you are interested, I have more information on his military record. I live in Pennsylvania, and I also have the Salem Church Parish Records. I can look up info for anyone if they are specific enough. You can email me directly at emstone55@hotmail.com. Elaine

Jennifer,
I see you mention the Collected Church Records of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Is this the St. Paul's in Hubley Twp, Sacramento, PA, that is also known as Artz's Church? I believe my great grandmother Ida may have been baptized here as many of her older brothers and sisters supposedly were. If you happen to have those records, would you be willing to do a lookup? Her DOB was around Nov. 5, 1864. Her father was Manassas Maurer, mother Elizabeth Kohlman Maurer. Elaine (emstone55@hotmail.com)

The entire title of the collection is, "Collected Church Records of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Franklin Square, Eldred Township, Schuylkill County, PA and Jacob's or Howerter's Lutheran Church, Upper Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, now St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman, Eldred Township, Schuylkill County, PA." I don't see a Manassas Maurer.
